I am thinking of taking the train from Munich to Praque. Is this a good thing? Any advise would be appreciated.
Carmelita, Yes, it's a "good thing" if you want to get from Munich to Prague. That trip will be a minimum of about five hours, often with one change. The quickest trip on that route is via Bus. There's an Express Bus departing Munich at 07:50, arriving Prague at 12:29 (time 4H:39M, compulsory reservation, no changes). I'm not sure which station the Bus departs from or arrives at, but hopefully Lee or one of the others can provide that information. Happy travels!
Thank you so much. Truly helpful information.
That bus leaves from the north side of the Munich Hbf. It goes to Prague's main station, Praha hl.n., to the Wilsonova St. bus stop. For schedules, use the German Rail (Bahn) website. Put in From: Munich, To: Praha hl.n. The buses run every 2-3 hours. There is also a bus from Nuernberg to Prague. Both buses are described here, in German. With sufficient advance purchase (at least 3 days in advance) you can get Europa-Spezial ticket for as low as €29/p. As you approach travel time, the cheapest tickets sell out and the price goes up. There are also two direct regional trains and two with one change in Schwandorf. The trains take about 1½ hour longer but up to 5 people can share a Bayern-Böhmen ticket to Pilsen for €34 (the ticket is €24 for a single person). At Pilsen, you buy a Czech Rail ticket to Prague for about €5-€6 (in Koruna). The advantage of the train is the tickets are always the same price and available for that price up to the time of departure.
We took the bus from Nurnberg to Prague and found it easy, cheap and a time saver. Bus has a snack cart and toilet.
