train from munich to paris

My granddaughters & I are going to fly into Munich, rent a car and tour Germany, Austria and Switzerland before going to Paris. Since toll roads are so expensive in France, I'd like to drop the car in either Zurich or back in Munich. I do not understand the train pass options for Munich to Paris. There are 3 of us (1 senior and 2 students). How do I figure the cost for our train tickets from Munich to Paris on a night train? Thank you for your help. Susan

I just looked it up on Deutsche Bahn website. 10:50PM Muenchen HBF 9:23AM Paris EST 10hr 33min City Night Line 40418 It depends on your date & class you wanting to book. For Premier Class (ensuite bath} the price would be 492 euros for the three of you in a deluxe 3 bed berth - Europa-Spezial Frankreich rate Other classes are cheaper These amounts are for a trip 60 days out - if your time is closer than the rate goes up If you are looking for the experience and $$$ is not an issue go for the Premier Class - it is the ONLY way I travel on night trains -

A clarification: you don't want a "train pass" for just one ride. You want a ticket for 3 people, purchased in advance so you can get the best fare (as Christi said). There's a base price just for the transportation, and extra fees for any sleeping accomodation. There are also day trains on your route. If you search this website for information on night trains, you will see that some like them, and others say never again. Use the Bahn website that Christi linked to research train routes for all of Europe. It will also have prices for trains that start in Germany. I find this version of it even easier to use: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en. Here are Rick's tips for using it: http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/db_tips.htm

I'm assuming that by "student" you mean adults (18+) who are still in school. I don't think there are any "student" rates for that night train. They are still adults. However, if they are young students, i.e., under 15, there is a lower (child) rate for them. For instance, one adult and two under 15 yo would be 204€ in a deluxe, 3 person cabin (184€ in economy), with the Savings Fare. If the students are children, they could ride free with you on a day train. Then a Savings Fare ticket could be as low as 39€. Those lowest fares sell out quickly; 59€ seems more common. There are ICE/TGV (change in Stuttgart) connections as fast as 6h7m
