train from Munich to Neuschwanstein castle

I have a hard time understanding what type of ticket I need when I go on the german rail website. What would be the cheapest way to go roundtrip on the same day? Would it be better to book a tour?

For one person, they have a single version of the Bayern-Ticket for €21. For up to five people, it's €29. You can't start your travel on workdays until after the rush hour, at 9 AM, but you can go anytime on a weekend day or holiday. The Bayern-Ticket is valid for all day, unlimited on/off travel on regional trains, but that's all that run from Munich Hbf to Füssen. The Bayern-Ticket also covers the bus from Füssen Bhf to the bus stop by the ticket kiosk in Hohenschwangau. For schedules, on the German Rail (Bahn) website, use Muenchen Hbf (or any other transit stop in Munich) to Hohenschwangau. If the departure time is after 9 AM or the date is a weekend, the Bayern-Ticket price will show under "Savings Fares". You can buy the Bayern-Ticket from a ticket automat for the prices I gave above, or for €2 at a ticket counter for personal service.

Is the travel time the same as in the other trains?

I could not find that fare. I am sure I am not doing something right.

Lee, I think the problem is that I am choosing no discount. However, all the other options are not anything that I am familiar with.

I am having the same problem with this booking with the "no reduction". I am even trying to book them from the link where it says regional fares and it doesn't give me that choice as the type of ticket.

Type in "Fuessen Bahnhof" as the destination (it will show you Füssen Bahnhof as a choice, pick it). Also make sure you use a date 3 days in the future. Sorry, the bus from Füssen Bahnhof to Hohenschwangau confuses the website as far as calculating fares, but the bus is included with the Bayern-Ticket. So, use Muenchen Hbf to Hohenschwangau for the schedule and Muenchen Hbf to Füssen Bahnhof for the fare. There is no need to buy the Bayern-Ticket online. You can get it from a ticket automat at the Hbf just before you travel. You can read about the Bayern-Ticket here. Click "Bayern".
