We are having difficulty planning our route from Munich to Cinque Terre. We will be using our railpass. When looking on Bahn, the train travels into both Austria and Switzerland, which would add a country to our pass. We are looking for a more direct route. Has anyone traveled between these two cities, and have any suggestions?
In which countries is your pass valid? Trains from Munich into Italy do go through Austria or Switzerland. You would have to pay a supplement to go through countries not covered by your pass.
We were planning on buying the 4-country pass to travel through France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. We are thinking that we may be safer to get the 5-country pass for $50 more in case the train has to stop in Zurich. Our overall route is: London, Paris, Munich, Cinque Terre, and Rome.
Kathy, you can pick your run. Just look at www.bahn.de and select Munich and Monterosso. When the schedule comes up, select "details for all". You'll see that most runs go through southern Austria (Innsbruck) and then into Italy (via Verona Porto Nuovo). You will bypass Switzerland on these runs. If you want more information on the train stops, click on the train symbols on the run and you will see all stops.
I'll look into your suggestions. Thanks so much for your help!
