I am flying into Munich and need to get to Passau, preferably by train. I'll arrive early morning. What are your experiences on traveling to Passau from Munich? What would you recommend as the best way to go. Thanks

www.bahn.de will tell you the best way to go, and what it will cost.
Just head to the station at the airport after landing, buy a ticket, and go. The ticket clerk can show you the schedule and sell you the best ticket.

When are you going? If in the near future, you may have to take a bus, as there is a track closure to Passau.

I'm going on August the 6th. I wondered why all the train routes I looked at use the bus after I got to the main Munich train station from the airport . Thanks.

You say early arrival. How early? After 9 am you can travel with a Bayern ticket. 34 EUR for the first person and 10 EUR for each additional person (5 max traveling together). You do not have to go into Munich as there is a direct train to Landshut at the airport and continue from there, with the last leg by by train replacement bus.
