train from monterosso to nice france april 23

Hi folks

In researching train travel times, the earliest train I get from Monterosso is 10:46 am , to Genoa and arriving in Nice around 4pm. Was hoping to get to Nice earlier -leaving Monterosso
by 8am or thereabouts. Any tips , suggestions?

Thank you

Mike,

Your best bet on that route is probably a departure from Monterosso at 06:54, arriving Nice Ville at 11:51 (time 4H:57M, one change at Ventimiglia, reservations compulsory on both legs). That's about the shortest trip, and the one I'd suggest. While that means an early start for the day, it will get you to Nice at a decent hour.

You might ask your hotel in Monterosso if they can fix a "bag breakfast" for you, as you won't be able to get breakfast at the hotel and there are no facilities at the station in Monterosso that will be open that early (or you could pick up a Panini or something the day prior to travel and have the hotel store it in their fridge until you leave). I've done that on many occasions.

Perfect Ken. Once again your sage advice helps me so much. Could I ask what website do we make reservations on for that train-I didn`t see that train on Tenitalia.

Thank you

You probably just need to set the departure time earlier when starting the schedule search at Trenitalia. Change it from the default setting to 5 or 6 a.m.

Mike,

I just checked and that train is listed on the Trenitalia website for 23 April. One point to mention - be sure to click the "Tutti i Treni (all trains) gray colour tab* when searching. The red tab is only for the Freccia trains.

It appears that Trenitalia is able to sell tickets for both legs of the journey. At this point, Super Economy tickets are still available at €9. However note that those are non-refundable and non-changeable, so choose carefully! The second leg via Thello from Genova to Nice is currently priced at €15. Be sure to specify Nice Ville as your arrival station.

You might try and make your ticket purchase at Italia Rail website. It's apparently more user friendly than the Trenitalia site.
