Train from Monaco to Cinque Terre (Manarola)

Does anyone have any suggestions on a train trip from Monaco to Manarola? I've seen posts for stopping in Riomaggiore, is that the only option or is there a stop in Manarola? Any information would be helpful. Also, any idea how long this train ride is? And if you've stayed in a hotel/b&b you like there please let me know =) Thank you!

How many connections you have to make and how long the trip takes depends upon your departure time. The minimum is one connection at Ventimiglia. Again, depending upon the time of day, some trains stop in Manarola and go on to Riomaggiore and at other times you would have to connect at Riomaggiore and backtrack to Manarola.

To see for yourself, use the timetables at www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down flag menu for English. After you get summary timetables for Monaco-Manarola, click on the arrow next to each departure time to see the connection points.

There are no direct trains from Monaco to Manarola. All train trips will require multiple changes, but changes are timed to coordinate and are simple to do. Your first change may be at Ventimiglia, about 25 minutes from Monaco. There you will likely catch an FS (Italian) train. You will then change again, probably in Genoa, Monterosso, Riomaggiore or a combination of these. The train trip will take about 5.5 hours, but it appears to be relatively inexpensive - under 30 euro. You can check Monaco-Monte-Carlo to Manarola schedules on the Italian rail website, but will need to use Ventimiglia to Manarola if you want to compare prices. Haven't stayed in Manarola, so can't recommend a hotel/B&B there.
