train from Milan airport to downtown

I have heard differing information about how to get to Milano Centrale train station from the Malpenza airport. Is there now an express train that runs frequently, or will my best bet be the express bus. I am flying into Milan and immediately taking a train to Bolzano. Thanks,
Martha

There is now frequent train service to Milano Centrale. You can see the schedule on Trenitalia.com.

Thanks - I have tried to do a search of a couple of the websites, including Trenitalia. They don't seem to recognize a Malpensa station. When I just put in Milan, I don't get that choice, or it goes to Milano Centrale. Just knowing that there is frequent train service is good. I'll just plan on going to the train station at the airport and checking the boards to see when the next train goes to Centrale. Thanks again.

Try "Malpensa aeroporto", and Milano Centrale ( unless you want to go to Cadorna station).

Martha, One other point to note is that you can also easily reach Milano Centrale via the Malpensa Shuttle (Bus). Check www.malpensashuttle.it/e-default.htm for full details and prices. The travel times via train vary from 40M to 52M (depending on which train you use). Travel time on the Shuttle is about 55M, so there's really not too much difference. Which option to choose may depend on what time your flight arrives, and which Terminal you'll be arriving at? Happy travels!

Only low-cost flights arrive at terminal 2. A rapid check I just did on train times from Milano Malpensa to Milano Centrale showed me about 40 trains daily on that route on a random day. Essentially there are 2 trains per hour. Fares cost € 7 (cheaper than the Milano Express running to Cadorna station) and travel time is 43 min. It makes only 2 intermediate stops. Maybe you are checking a date too far ahead. If so, information will be available for premium trains only. It is a trick of Trenitalia website: regional trains are fed in later than long-distance ones.

Everyone - Thanks. Will I be able to purchase a ticket at the Malpensa station to get me all the way to Bolzano? Or will I just be able to get to Centrale, where I will purchase my ticket to Bolzano? Thanks again.

@ Andre L., "Only low-cost flights arrive at terminal 2." That's true, but since the OP didn't specify which Terminal she would be arriving at, I felt it was prudent to ask. If arriving at Terminal 2, it's just as easy to take the Malpensa Shuttle rather than the train. Cheers!
