Purchasing ticket on renfe website from Madrid to Barcelona, three fares listed; turista, preferente and club. Please let me know your experience with these fares and do I need to pay for assigned seats. Thanks

Turista is second class....preferente is like business class....club is like first class. I prefer Turista since it's a LOT cheaper, and the benefits (a meal, a drink, a newspaper and a slightly wider seat) don't seem to be worth it. The seats in second class are great....far better than airline seats, with FAR more legroom. I'm a big guy, and I am very comfortable in Turista.

I concur with Norm -- Turista is about like business class on American airlines only better. If reserved seats are required, the price will be included in the ticket.
