Train from London to Amsterdam

is Eurostar the only train service for this route? Is there a way to buy cheap tickets for a June O/W? What is the difference in the class of service? Thanks.

Yep they've got a monopoly on that route and you still have to change trains in Brussels. It is no fun that ride, Skip it take a plane instead on Easy Jet from London Southend pleasant airport its quicker gets you there in a hour versus six hours and cheaper at a fraction of the costs

There is no reason to go all the way to Southend for an inexpensive flight to Amsterdam. There are numerous inexpensive flights from every London airport. Southend only has two--one very early in the morning and one very late at night.

The train will take 4:45 and add another 45 minutes for check in, security and passport control (at London) you get a total of 5:30. With the flight you have one hour to "Southend" by train, two hours for check in, one hour for the flight, 30 minutes for passport control (if lucky) and a half hour into town. So, you might save a few minutes flying but the train will be comfortable and have some scenery.

Eurostar is the only rail provider through the Channel Tunnel. The earlier you buy your tickets, the cheaper they will be. Besides the previously recommended Man in Seat 61 look at the Eurostar website for information on the difference between first and second class.

Yeah, London City Airport has flights to Amsterdam. Get there on the DLR.

Well, if you want to travel to Southend that's your choice. But prices from other London airports are pretty much the same on Easy Jet. Even BA is cheaper from Gatwick than flying from Southend and it's a lot easier and quicker to get there.
