What is the most efficient and quickest way to make this trip? Go to Milan or go to Genova? It is very confusing as it is our first trip to Europe. Thanks

You will go via Genova with several connections.
The best train timetable site for virtually all of Europe is www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner for English. After you get summary timetables for La Spezia-Cassis, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.
