Hi, I am travelling from L'isle Sur La Sorgue (LSLS) to Perpignan on July 7th and wondering what is the best way to travel. Is there a station in LSLS that will connect me to a train to Perpignan? Should I get tickets before hand or when I arrive there. I am planning to fly into Marseilles and then travel by train to LSLS. If you could direct me with the best train options for that journey as well- I'd be most appreciative. Thanks,
L.
You'll have to connect to all other destinations through Avignon, either the Centre station or the TGV. When checking long-distance schedules on DB, input one of the Avignon stations as your endpoint/start point.
There is no train station in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. You'll have to take a bus between Avignon and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Here's the schedule I found on a tourist information site: Leave Isle-sur-la-Sorgue toward Avignon : 7h04 - 7h30 - 8h00 - 8h29 - 9h - 12h31 - 14h11 - 17h30 - 18h - 18h30 - 19h22 - 20h02 - 20h30 Leave Avignon toward Isle-sur-la-Sorgue : 5h51 - 6h11 - 6h49 - 7h11 - 7h49 - 8h19 - 12h21 - 12h49 - 14h25 - 16h49 - 17h49 - 18h20 - 18h49 - 19h19 - 20h There are regional trains that run directly from Avignon Centre to Perpignan. The trip takes around three hours and the 2nd class fare is €34.10. Buy your ticket in either Marseille or Avignon.
Thank you so much for your replies. Could you please tell me what 'DB' is and the website through which you found the train information times? One last question- I found a station called Isle-Fontaine De Vaucluse - that I can supposedly get to from Marseille airport by train and which is close to Isle Sur La Sorgue-- do you know if this station is closer to LSLS or if it is still better to take the train to Avignon and then bus to LSLS? Thank you so much!
I am extremely reluctant to dispute Tim, who is the acknowledged master of rail information on this site. Still, consulting both DB and Google I found evidence of rail service to L'Isle sur la Sorgue, though the station is not indeed named that, but rather Isle-Fontaine d.v as you discovered. I have seen the station, but have not taken the train from there in several years, so it is entirely possible that bus service has replaced the commuter rail service to Avignon. The "DB" site that Tim and I mentioned is a website provided by the German Railways, Deutsche Bahn. On it, you can input your starting station & destination point, and the computer will give you all the trains with connections that serve that route. You can find the link to it if you click on "Favorite Links" at the top of this page, scroll down to "Transportation" and then find Deutsche Bahn.
Based on the map, it appears that the trains station in Isle-sur-la Sorge (where I have never been) is called L'Isle - Fontaine-d-V. e.g. that is is named for both places. Fontaine de Vaucluse (where I have been) is a few kilometers to the east. The station is on a slow train line from Marseilles to Avignon and can be reached from either.
I happily stand corrected! The tourist information site I found said there was no train service and only listed bus service. It didn't mention the L'Isle Fontaine de Vaucluse station. This proves that one can't believe everything one reads. And you shouldn't believe everything I write either! I did another search and found the official tourist information site. Sure enough, it lists the train station.
