Hi, I am an airline employee and planning on going to Paris. As I fly space available and not sure if I'm going to get on the flight, I may need to fly to a different city and then take a train. My question is if I end up flying into either Brussels or Geneva will I be able to buy a train ticket right then and there at the station and will it be twice as much money as making a reservation in advance?
Thank you for any help you can offer
The standard 2nd class fare for Brussels-Paris on Thalys trains (your only choice) is €90.00. That's what you'll pay if you buy a ticket at the station. The best advance purchase Smoove fare is €25.00. The standard 2nd class fare from Geneva to Paris on a TGV is €86.00 (a bit more if you take a train from the airport to the main Geneva station). If you book well in advance, you can get a Piccolissimo fare as low as €25.00.
Thank you. I have one more question. I have been looking on line at the different train options and I don't fully understand the refund policy on the Thalys from Brussels to Paris. On the website it states that the ticket I am looking at (2 adult + child for 105 Euro) is 100% refundable before train departure but I am unclear as to how to go about the refund. It gives numbers for each country purchased in and euros per min. etc. If you have any idea what that means could please inform me on how and how much to cancel.
Thanks again
I'm sure by now that you've seen my post on your other thread - unless there's some fantastic promotion going on, all three tickets won't be refundable 50% or 100%. Your best bet may be to purchase the cheapest Smoove tickets you can get, then just eat the cost if you can't make the train. How much notice will you get that you WON'T be able to make the Brussels > Paris train?
