My wife and I will be traveling from Paris to Turin in mid-February. We hope to be booked on the TGV leaving Paris at 2:41 p.m. Will there be enough daylight for us to see the Alps when we pass through Switzerland on the way to Turin? Many thanks, John
Unlikely. If your on the TGV at 2:41 pm, you will travel via Lyon and the Frejus Tunnel, bypassing Switzerland. You will depart Chambery at the start of the Alps at 5.43 pm, sunset will be 6:00 pm in Lyon in mid February. If it is clear, the Alps should be well lit by the setting sun as you enter, but will probably be pitch black by 7 pm after you leave Modane. At 7:30 pm you enter the Frejus Tunnel and its always pitch black there.
