We are flying into Frankfurt and need to take the train to Trier. I have read that it is pretty easy. This is our first tour so it is all new to us. I read that we will need to change trains somewhere. Does our ticket from Frankfurt take us to Trier or will we need to buy another ticket when we change trains?
Starting tour late September.
Also does anyone have an idea on weather. We will be on the GAS tour. I am trying to pack light with layers for Switerland.
Hi Sue,
You can use this website for finding train schedules and routes anywhere in Europe:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
There are frequent trains from the Frankfurt airport to Trier, but none are direct. The trip takes 3-4 hours and 1 or 2 train changes. You can use the above website for doing a search on the day you arrive and print the schedule out before leaving home. That way after you have arrived in Frankfurt and gone through customs, you can go to the train station in the airport and buy tickets on the next train. I usually recommend taking the quickest, most direct option. When you buy tickets, they are usually tickets for each leg, for example a ticket from Frankfurt airport to Koln, and another ticket from Koln to Trier.
There is no need to buy separate tickets for each leg. In fact, it is best to buy a single ticket for the whole journey, as this will mean that you have more recourse against the rail company if a train is delayed and you miss your booked connection.
