Planning to fly into Frankfurt from Orlando in June'26. Then taking a train from Frankfurt to Salzburg Looks to be a 5+hours train trip(approx.) and most will require at least one change. I'm looking at Trainline app and obviously it doesn't show availability this far out. So would welcome advice from anyone that has done this or something like it. Any train app suggestions would also be welcomed. As I am planning this so that we have plenty of time to get to Salzburg a day before the official start of the My Way Alpine Europe Tour I get that we'll have a very long travel day(s) and I get it we will be exhausted but have a full day for recovery.
Instead of Trainline, look for schedules at the official German train operator Deutsche Bahn.
Why not fly into Munich? Its a lot closer to Salzburg.
I agree with Stan. Fly into to Munich. The trains to Salzburg are frequent and cheap.
Discover Airlines (Lufthansa subsidiary) flies 3 days per week direct to Munich from Orlando.
I, too, would use the Bahn website, not Trainline. Some people say that Trainline is easier to use. I don't agree, but Trainline is a reseller, so for sure you will pay more for your tickets with them.
As for Frankfurt vs. Munich, going from Munich, regional trains from Munich to Salzburg take about the same time as express trains, and you can use a much more economical Bayern-Ticket with regional trains.
Even with express trains, Frankfurt to Salzburg will take over 5 hours and fully flexible tickets will cost over $100 a person. You can pay less if you get Saver Fare tickets, but these tickets are train specific. If your flight is late, and you miss the train specified on your ticket, your ticket will be worthless and you will have to buy a fully flexible ticket at full price.
The best thing to do is check if your airline offers Rail&Fly in Germany. That way you have a flexible ticket and can just hop on the next train to Salzburg once you are out of arrivals.
@WengenK
Rail&Fly. Good point. However, not all airlines book it, so make sure before you book. You have to book it with the airline at the time you book your flight ticket.
If I remember, the Rail&Fly fare is similar in price to the best Saver Fares and, like you say, is a fully flexible ticket, so you can avoid the specific train limitation. I think it would cover you all the way to Salzburg, or to Freilassing, at least.
Still, I'd prefer to fly into Munich and use a regional train and a Bayern-Ticket (good for any train that day and doesn't require advance purchase).
