I have tried to buy tickets on the sncf web site going from france to italy and keep getting a message "no trains run after the time indicated". I can't complete the ticket sale. Any advice?

What date format are you using? The SNCF site using the day/month/year format. Also, what time are you using? They use the 24 hour clock.
I'm just guessing what the problem might be...
