We're travelling by train from Pisa airport to Florence on the 9th May and returning in the morning of the 12th to catch our flight back to the UK. Since Italy is well known for strikes, I'm wondering if there are any scheduled for those 2 days (especially the 12th, since it's imperative we get back to Pisa that morning). Should I book tickets or is it OK to get them on the day? Also, has anyone made that train trip? On the Trenitalia site it appears the train goes direct from Florence to Pisa airport, is that correct?
Thanks for any help!
You don't need the train. There's a direct bus between the Pisa airport and the Florence SMN train station. 10Euro round trip. Here's the link. http://www.terravision.eu/pisa_price_timetable.html
Larry, Thank you! I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere. Maggie
For some departure times trains go directly from Florence to the Pisa airport. For other departure times a connection at Pisa Centrale is required. In either case, there is no advantage to booking ahead. These are regionale trains. There is open seating and no reservations are possible. Your tickets will be good on any train. It's just like riding a city bus.
Thanks Tim! I was hoping to hear from you, you are my guru on all things involving trains ;-)
You're welcome, Maggie. Be sure to validate (time stamp) your ticket in the machine at the station. If you don't, you'll be fined on the spot when the conductor checks your ticket.
Thanks Tim!
