I will be in Copenhagen in July and wondered how to get to Gotenborg the easiest way on the train. Is there a direct train and how long does it take and approximately how much does it cost?
Terry - To answer your question if the train from Copenhagen-Goeteborg Central is direct, yes, it is, you won't need to transfer en route. I took a similar route in June 1971 going from Malmoe Central to north Sweden, 22 hrs, direct, and it stopped in Goeteborg.
From the Travel Gate Swedan website~~~~ New Trains Between Copenhagen – Göteborg
On 11th January 2009 regional public transport companies took over the responsibility for Öresundståg traffic in the south of Sweden. The duration of time to travel between Göteborg (Gothenburg) in Sweden and Copenhagen in Denmark will be approx 4 hrs. All travel in the new traffic system will have fixed prices. That means you do not have to think about ordering 90 days before departure to get the best price or wait until the last minute with a risk not to get on the train in time just to get a good price.
Trains I find the best way to get schedules (but not fares) all over Europe is to use the German Rail website, http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en. It doesn't show even a bus stop named "Gotenborg". It also does not recognize "Gothenburg". It does recognize "Göteborg (or Goeteborg). It looks like there are regional trains every other hour and they take about 4 hours. There are also 3½ hr express trains in between the regional trains. Fares The Danish Rail website is at www.dsb.dk. I'm not familiar with it. Fortunately it can display in English. I think I found an 8 AM IC for 379 Krone (~$70), but that's to Skelagervej v/ Göteborgvej, Denmark. The Danish Rail website apparently does not give connections for destinations outside of Denmark and Göteborg is in Sweden. The Swedish Rail website is www.sj.se, but it, also, does not seem to show connections for destinations outside Sweden. So I used Lund, Sweden, right across the straights from Kopenhagen, to give me an estimate for Kopenhagen to Göteborg. It gave me refundable fares from Lund to Göteborg of 363 Sk ($54) for the IC and 319 Sk ($47) for the regional train. Kopenhagen to Göteborg should be a little more.
