Take the train from Civit... to Termini (Rome) and a train to Venice. The run from Civit... to Rome is a commuter run - 3 to 4 trains an hour and takes from 45 to 1.15 depending on the train. The train station is about half mile from the port entrance and probably can see if from the upper decks of the ship. IF you are at any other train station in Italy prior to Civit.. buy an open, second class ticket, from Civit to Termini. When ships docks, especially when there are more than one, the train will be mobbed and lines impossibly long. With the open ticket, validate in a yellow box, and get on the next regional train headed to Rome. It is hour 15 but you will be in Rome before you could have bought a ticket for a faster train by waiting in line. In Rome, walk to the front of the station, use the ticket machines to buy a ticket on the next train to Venice. About four hours to Venice. Use trenitalia.com to schedules and prices.
