Train from Cinque Terre to Venice then to Nova Gorica

I would like to take a train on July 25, 2013 from Cinque Terre to Venice on the fastest train. Then take a train to Nova Gorica, Slovenia. Any helpful information is much appreciated. Thanks!

For detailed timetables go to the German Rail site. Enter a specific Cinque Terre town as your departure point and Nova Gorica as your arrival point. You'll see different departure times and routes, all requiring several connections. Click on "Show details for all" to see all legs and connecting points.

Just a word of warning: I'm not sure if the German Railways website (bahn.de) also includes other forms of public transport in Italy or Slovenia, because if it doesn't it will tell you to make a very big, expensive and unnecessary detour to reach Nova Gorica. The easiest way to reach the town from anywhere in Italy is to buy a train ticket to Gorizia Centrale, which is located in the adjacent town in Italy (literally a stone's throw away from Nova Gorica) and then either take a city bus, a taxi or walk the couple of miles across Gorizia to Nova Gorica. Edit: Actually nevermind that, the German Rail website suggests exactly what I've just said, only that it will take far less than the indicated 40 minutes, unless you walk or have to wait some time for the bus.

With my wife we're working more or less on the same travel circuit. From the US to Venice. Venice drive to Cinque Terra. The base town will be Vernazza since Rick believes and we definitely agree, seems to be best of the 5 Cinque Terre towns. Monterosso being a little over our budget to stay!. Then drive back to Venice and stay on an Agritourism place near Venice, tour Venice and then get a bus ride with DRD from Marco Polo Airport to Ljubjana, Slovenia for E45 R/T (excellent) -- all Thanks for another of our friends at the Wall. Can't wait to taste the wines of the Cinque Terra. Ciao!
