We will be in Italy on our honeymoon and the final leg of transportation that I need to lock down is the train from Cinque Terre (Riomaggiore) to Rome. When I go on trenitalia.com and put in the date we need to travel (November 20, 2012 for 2 people), it says "No solution found." What is the best/cheapest way to get from Cinque Terre to Rome? What is this "reservation" we need on top of our tickets?
Look for connections from La Spezia Centrale to Rome. Use the local train from Riomaggiore to La Spezia.
IF you are using a rail pass then you need to purchase a seat reservation on all trains EXCEPT the regional trains. My guess on the "no solution" is that you were looking at a regional train where you can only purchase tickets, on line, seven days in advance. However, there is absolutely no need to purchase regional train tickets because those trains never sell out. Just get on and go. If no seat, you stand - however, that is very unlikely at that time of year. However, regional tickets required validation (time stamp) in the yellow boxes so do not get careless or you will be deeply in debt for the first year of your married life.
Hi Try again but split it CT to Florence, Florence to Rome. I looked the reverse last weekend with no problems
Regards
For most departure times the Trenitalia site suggests routes that do not include Florence. Simply enter a date within the next seven days and you'll see all departure times with fares, including regionale trains.
The reason I suggest via Florence route as the direct trains are infrequent when I was searching, though the is one departing 13:00 for example.
