My daughter would like to experience a night on a train and we are getting a compartment for the four of us. We will be leaving from Monterosso. How reliable is the train from Monterosso to Milan? Do you have any pointers for making this connection? Thank you
According to the timetables on the German Rail site, the last train you could take from Monterosso to Milan in time to catch the Milan-Paris night train is an IC train. It leaves Monterosso at 18:55 and arrives in Milan at 21:50. Those trains usually run on time. However, even if it's delayed, you'll have lots of time to make the connection. The night train doesn't depart until 23:38.
There are several IC trains a day that go from Monterosso to Milan without any changes. They are very reliable. why not book an earlier one and allow yourselves enough time in Milan to see the duomo and have a nice dinner before boarding the night train?
Thank you both for you replies!
This thread caught my attention as we were considering a connection either to Paris or Lucerne through Milan. We have decided to visit Lucerne, then go on to Paris. We have tickets from Milano Central to Lucerne at 20:10. We either have to arrive 1+ hours prior to that or arrive at 19:50. I was hoping to catch the later time to maximize time in Cinque Terre. It is also an IC train - so is this feasible, given that they are reliable?
