We will be traveling from Monterrosso Al Mare to Rome by train. Are there direct trains or will we need to change in La Spezia to get a high speed train to Rome? We are staying near the Vatican and would like to know the best train station to go into. To complicate matters we are traveling Friday April 18th staying in Rome Easter weekend, then taking a Princess cruise out of Civitavecchia leaving that following Monday the 21st and would also like ideas on the best transportation from Rome to the harbor.
Thanks
Hi Mike. See info on trenitalia.com or trainline.com. Train leaving Monterosso at 9:13, one change in Pisa, arrive Roma Termini station 2:33 pm. From there, taxi or public trans to hotel. I'll let others comment on transport to cruise, or you can search on this site, it is a common question. Have a great trip!
There is one direct train from Monterosso to Roma, but it runs very early.
Just look on www.trenitalia.com. It appears that not all trains are in the timetable yet for April. I would wait another month or so before booking. Normally you will take a local to La Spezia where you can then indeed board a high speed train.
Rome to Civitavecchia is a common topic here on the forum:
For the schedule from Monterosso, just look at an upcoming Friday on the Trenitalia app or website to get an idea of what will be available in April - expect to make at least one change, and leave relatively early in the morning.
Look at a map to determine how close your lodging is to the Ottaviano Metro stop - which you would reach by Metro from Roma Termini. If not convenient, a taxi from Termini would be your best option.
