We will be traveling from Bari, Italy to Zurich, Switzerland in July and will be breaking up the trip into three segments over 4 days. We're not sure if purchasing one through ticket would allow us to break up the trip and stop overnight in places along the way. (We will stay in Bologna and Lugano.) Is there a 4-day train pass covering Italy and Switzerland that would be more economical? Experienced train travelers, please weigh in! Thanks!
The days that international tickets were valid for 2 months and you could make stopovers are unfortunately gone.
Long distance trains in Italy have IRT tickets, so they are train specific and come with a reservation, and so you will have to purchase each separately.
You could get a pass, but in Italy you would still need to get a reserrvation for each train, which costs (I believe) 6,- for a IC and 10,- for a high speed train. So do the math.
