I'm confused by the Renfe site. It looks like there are quite a few trains that go between Barcelona and Figueres, but it only gives you options to buy 2 different times. Rail Europe only lists the two times that you can purchase. How do we get those other tickets? Is this something that we need to do while we're there? If so, where do we do that? Thanks for your help!
All those other trains are Media distance or Regional trains. You do not need advance tickets for those. Just buy at the station when you are ready to go.
Great! Thanks!
Also, if you're going to Figueres itself, don't buy those two advance ticket trains as they go to the new high-speed station that is outside the town.
Janelle, my wife and I took this trip in May. We bought our ticket the day of travel to the "non-TGV" station - no problem. As told in the previous response, Figueres also has a TGV-only station ... the TGV station seemed a bit farther from town and had fewer taxis. Both will work - whichever fits your schedule best and at the best price. BTW, we loved the area so much that we're renting a home nearby for a week this Fall.
Phillip and Will are referring to the Figures-Villifant station where you change from the Spanish Renfe trains to the French TGV stations. For the city of Figueres itself, you would want the other train station in the city.
