Train From Amsterdam To Munich

HELP! We need to book a train ticket from Amsterdam to Munich as soon as possible. We need advice as to which travel plan would make the most sense. 1. Taking a direct train from Amsterdam to Munich during the day (if this is best option, what site should we book through that will keep our cost the lowest?)? 2. Take a train from Amsterdam to Berlin (we cut Berlin out of our trip in the beginning because we didn't have the time or money to go there) and take a night train from Berlin to Munich. 3. Amsterdam to Frankfurt during the day, stopping for a few hours and continuing on the train to Munich. 4. Taking a night train from Amsterdam to Munich. Benefit to this is that we will not be wasting a day of travel on a DAY TRAIN. Thoughts?? Thank you!

Christina, there isn't a direct train between Amsterdam and München travelling during daytime, but transfer (connections) area easy. It makes no sense go to Berlin for a few hours there, just to take a night train. You can use option 3, taking the first train in the morning to Frankfurt and then a late train to München. You can try to issue that ticket as a single ticket with a stopover in Frankfurt on the DB website, use the option "travel via" on the search itinerary box.

You can find your train options, schedules, and fares on the German Rail (Bahn) website. If you commit to a specific train (day and time) well in advance, you can get the best fares. I doubt that #1 is an option. I don't see any direct day trains from Amsterdam to Munich. In addition to Berlin to Munich, there is a night train from Amsterdam to Berlin, but either way, you will be adding significant time to your trip. There are a number of day trains with one change, but it's not necessarily in Frankfurt. I see Düsseldorf, Mannheim, Frankfurt Flughafen, etc. There is a night train direct from Amsterdam to Munich. I'd pick one of the last two options.

Christina, Option 3 is very doable to get to Munich, transfer only once. Take a direct ICE Amsterdam to Frankfurt. No need to have a couple of hours layover in Frankfurt Hbf (unless you so desire), then take the direct ICE Frankfurt Hbf to Munich Hbf. Time it right both legs are direct on the ICE. This summer I took the direct ICE Framkfurt Hbf-Amsterdam Centraal for a day trip. Option 4...no problem, if you're not adverse to taking a night train, plus you save a day. Option 2 is also doable, day as long as you transfer in Duisburg. Then take the ICE to Duisburg Hbf to Berlin Hbf. Or, you do the Amsterdam-Berlin CNL night train. You do have a number of choices where you can tailor your routes.
