train from Amsterdam to Baden Baden

My wife and I would like to take a train from Amsterdam to Baden Baden. Everyone says to book in advance online to save money. Is nshispeed.nl or bahn.de the best sites? Prices seem to vary for the same trains, # of stops, etc. Thanks.

If you pick the right departure times, you can book well in advance (up to 92 days allowed) on bahn.de and get a Europa-Spezial Niederlande fare as low as €39.00.

Thank you very much. I checked bahn.de and the best price with one stop is 113 euro. Lowest was 98 euro with 5 stops. Will look around a bit more, then book if that's the best I find. Thanks again.

You're welcome. As the lowest discount fare tickets are sold, the price keeps rising until all that is left are full fare tickets. What's your travel date?

May 6, so that's still more than two months away. I began looking at Amsterdam-Baden Baden train prices three weeks ago and they haven't changed.

I checked some later dates in May and found good discount fares. Evidently your route is popular and all the discount fare tickets are gone for 6 May.

May 6 is a Sunday. The 2 of you can travel on one "Happy Weekend" ticket from the Dutch-German border to Baden-Baden for 40€ on the regional trains. Then you need a ticket from A'dam to the German border. You'll probably route through Venlo, NL. Find a ticket to the border at Venlo using at the Dutch site - www.ns.nl . It's probably around 25-30€ each from A'dam. Then you'll need to travel between Venlo and the German border, which is probably a couple of km. You can get this tiny ticket before leaving A'dam at the counter - not sure you can buy it online. If you have the HW ticket in hand (purchase online) for May 6, then you can use it from the German border onward. Find an itinerary for the German portion at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en on the eligible regional trains using Kaldenkirchen (German border town) as your "start" station. You must stipulate "only local transport" under "means of transport" to pull up the regional train connections to Baden-Baden.

Thanks, Russ. I found a 57 euro fare for 6 May on ICE trains Amsterdam-Frankfurt-Baden Baden through nshispeed.nl. we'll probably book that as it has just one change and seems less complicated. If anyone out there has other ideas, love to hear them Thanks again. Michael

One more question, when traveling by train from Baden Baden back to the airport in Frankfurt, should i book for the station Frankfurt Flughafen? I thinks so because that's the airport, correct? Thanks again to all who have responded. Michael

Michael: That's right. There might be "(M)" in between those two words, indicating it's Frankfurt on the Main River, not the other Frankfurt on the Oder River. Fred: "Amsterdam-Frankfurt-Baden Baden is a much better route to take. Kaldenkirchen is a mere pit stop." I did not intend Kaldenkirchen as as a destination - simply a "start" town to use at the DB site for finding regional trains on which the Happy Weekend ticket is valid. If you take a look at the actual route of the "Amsterdam-Frankfurt-Baden-Baden" trains, you'll find that they normally pass through Kaldenkirchen, even though the faster trains don't stop there - you and I are talking about the same route.

Got it ! Hopefully the station at Kaldenkirchen will be refurbished, which it really needs.

Hi, I agree...Amsterdam-Frankfurt-Baden Baden is a much better route to take. Kaldenkirchen is a mere pit stop.
