Train - Frankfurt to Paris roundtrip, OR....

How to get a reasonably priced one-way ticket Paris to Atlanta? I will be traveling to Frankfurt for work over the summer, and my wife will be flying over at the end of my work trip so we can take a 7 to 10~ day vacation to Paris. Neither one of us are very experienced travelers, and I realize I have some options on how to go about our travel plans, I just don't know enough about traveling in Europe to know what would make the most sense. I could fly my wife roundtrip from Atlanta to Paris for about the same price as flying roundtrip Atlanta to Frankfurt. The problem with that is I would then have to buy a one way ticket from Paris to Atlanta, which is ridiculously priced ($3500~), and my company will only give me about $500 towards the ticket price to fly from Paris to Atlanta. So it looks like we'll need to both fly roundtrip Atlanta to Frankfurt, and somehow get to Paris, then back to Frankfurt for our return flight. My question is, about how much would it cost us to take a train roundtrip from Frankfurt to Paris? I've looked at the train sites I've seen posted here, but I can't find a price because we're too far out. We'll be traveling the 1st week of September. And where do/should we take the train from/to? I will need to drop a rental car off at the Frankfurt airport, so it would seem logical to leave from there, or close to there.
I believe my wife already booked an apartment for us in the 7th District. We must be picking a bad time to go (1st week in September) because she couldn't seem to find a Hotel room pretty much anywhere. So where would we want to take the train to? If someone has a specific link to the train sites w/ price, departure/arrival times, that may be of some help. Thanks!!!

Hi, I'll address the r/t price, the normal full flexiblity price Paris-Frankfurt, Frankfurt-Paris.....228 Euro, 2nd class, daytime, on the French TGV or German ICE train. Both are high speed. Which one you ride depends upon the departure time. It's 114 Euro, 2nd class each way. You board at Frankfurt Hbf ( central station), you arrive at Gare de l'Est, ie., Paris Est...direct, non stop, depending also on which departure time you choose.

The reason Paris is difficult in September is that the height of their convention season.

Do you also want to visit places like the Rhine and Mosel river valleys? In that case consider searching for roundtrips from Cologne to Paris on Thalys.com. As to your question: If you drop off your car at Frankfurt airport you can still book the €39 Europa Spezial to Paris on Deutsche Bahn. You will take an ICE train to Mannheim and there change to the ICE or TGV train to Paris. It's a very easy connection usually even on the same platform. The website to search for DB German Rail (and French rail) fare is www.bahn.com

Here are a few more train details. To get the lowest Europa-Spezial Frankreich fare, book ASAP (up to 92 days allowed) on the German Rail site. There is a limited number of discount fare seats at each price level. They start at €39.00 and go up in ten-euro increments. Depending upon your departure time, the ride takes 4-5 hours. You will arrive at Gare de l'Est. Another option would be to buy open jaw (multi-city) plane tickets for yourself and fly Atlanta-Frankfurt and Paris-Atlanta. Those tickets often cost about the same as a standard roundtrip ticket. That way it would work to buy a roundtrip ticket to Paris for your wife.

WOW!!! I wish I had known about that multi-destination a few weeks ago. To fly my wife from Atlanta to Frankfurt (event spend a couple days in Frankfurt), then Frankfurt to Paris, Paris to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Atlanta, there's essentially no price difference! My flight on the other hand, I'll be departing in about 3~ weeks, so I missed the window for the cheap flights. That one would run me about $3500. So really, I need to find the same flight my wife would have to go roundtrip Frankfurt to Paris. It would probably be cheaper overall. (for some reason travelocity isn't showing me Lufthansa flight 1030 I had looked at for my wife). Still haven't ruled out the train though. Kind of a weird question, but is the train something cool to experience?

Is the train cool to experience? Well, if you haven't been on a bullet train yet, yes. But it's actually also much faster to get from Frankfurt to Paris than by air. Air: 30 mins from downtown Frankfurt to airport 60 mins prior to departure you've got to be there 60 mins flight
30 mins to get your luggage and leave the terminal 45 mins to get from CDG to downtown Paris That's a total 3:45 hours (minimum) and plenty of stress. By train it's a total of 3:58 hours - from downtown to downtown, convenient, you can be on the phone all the time, surf the Internet or just read... have a meal, a beer, talk to people...

Train or plane between Frankfurt and Paris? No contest. Take the train! As fast as flying, seats with lots of leg room, something to look at out the window, and a lower carbon footprint. Book ASAP on the German Rail site to get the lowest fare that still is available. The allotted number of tickets for the cheapest fare may already be gone. The longer you wait, the higher the price.

Delta has a non-stop from Atlanta to Stuttgart. You could look up that to see if it's any cheaper. Also look up intra-Europe airlines, sometimes we can get cheaper flights than train fares, just depends on the days/times.
