Hi Rick, i'm planning my trip to Italy this November and i will plan a day trip to Lake Como from Milan by train. My itineray as below : Milan - Varenna (by train), Varenna - Menaggio (by ferry), Menaggio to Lugano (by bus). My question : 1. Can i take the direct train from Lugano to Milan ? 2. Does the train stop at Como from Lugano to Milan ? 3. What if i plan to take bus from Lugano to Menaggio (by bus) , Menaggio to Bellagio (by ferry). Then how to back to Milan ? Via como ? 4. please advice the website for the bus schedule from menaggio to Lugano..

I will let others more knowledgeable than me answer your specific questions, but I would like to clarify that Rick Steves is not part of this Helpline (unless here under a pseudonym) - it is a loose community (I know - don't call me loose) of volunteer travelers, some more and some less experienced, who help each other and the greater world by calling on their collective experience. Just in case you expected an answer from The Master himself. Many of the answers can be found in the RS Italy 2011 guidebook, BTW. Happy planning...
