I am trying to gage the average fare for a train from Venice to Munich (on 8/25). I was not able to get a fare from DieBahn or TrenItalia, even when I tried searching an earlier date. Does anyone have any idea how to find an approximate fare for this? Also, should I attempt to buy online ahead of time or just purchase in Venice? Thank you!
Many night trains go via Bologna Centrale. Use Trenitalia and search from Bologna Centrale to Munich on the International Tab. Then search for the ticket from Venezia to Bologna Centrale on the National Tab page.
We just booked from night train from Bologna Centrale to Zurich for 170 Euro for 2 people in a 3 person 2nd class compartment.
According to the Die Bahn site there is one train leaving Venice (Venezia) Mestre station (IC (Inter City) at 07:03 duration: 7 hours and 22 . Another at 09:04 duration also the same. Each has 1 change at Verona Porta Nuova to EC (Euro City.
There are other trains before and after these times.
Price posted was 89.10 Euros for normal fare and 32.50 for savings fare. Don't know about savings fare. MUST have seat reservations.

Unable to get fares and timetables for August.
Hope this helps.
2nd class for 1 - $125 is what I found
New timetables for most of Europe will be issued in mid June. If you enter a date in May at either Die Bahn or Trenitalia, you should see the fares. I used 30 May at bahn.de and found a normal fare of 95.10 EUR and a Euro-Sparpreis Italien savings fare of 32.50 EUR. There is also a direct Venice-Munich night train with SparNight fares, when available, starting at 29 EUR. Book at http://buchung.nachtzugreise.de.
A flight Venice-Munich costs 32 Euro one-way:

What about Venice Airport to Memmingen (1hr from Munich) on TUIfly on the 26th of August for €9.99 incl. tax (as of May 9th, 1.13am CEDT)? Flight time is 1.10hrs.
