I just read on Rick's updates for travel there will be a rail disruption in London.
I booked my train tickets via Nationalexpress. The confirmation came off First Great Western site. Can anyone tell me if this is going to be a problem leaving Paddington Station to Reading/Tilehurst on 7 June returning from Tilehurst on 21 June. I don't know the name of train I'm to catch out of Paddington in London. These dates are on the weekend and that's what the notice talked about the disruptions would happen. Thank you again for all your help and information. Only 29 days left and we'll be in London.
Take a look at the scheduling website again. I have done the same thing on National East Coast, and their schedule indicates specifically which trains are affected by scheduling changes. Some are, some are not.
Details of timetable alterations because of engineering works are on the First Great Western website. I cannot see any changes on the Paddington-Reading section of line for the weekend of 7th June. For the 21st June, no details are yet available.
If the trains are not running, alternative buses will probably be provided, but these will take more time. There is an alternative rail route to Reading which starts from London Waterloo, and you could easily then take the very frequent bus to Tilehurst.
For other travellers, it is really unnecessary to book rail tickets in advance for what is normally considered a commuter journey like London to Reading. It is only on long-distance journeys that you can save money by booking well in advance.
Now I read that I didn't have to book in advance. I've been reading the prices could be very high if we walked up to purchase the tickets the day before or day of travel. Well, I've paid for them so won't have much out of my pocket at once.
Thanks for the information. I will pick up my tickets from the machine at Paddington station.
