How much $$ would a second class ticket cost f/ Vernazza to Nice and how long would the journey take? Thanks!
stephanie, One of the shortest trips I could find on that route departs at 06:07 and arrives at 12:36 (Travel Time 6H:29M, with three changes at Genova, Ventimiglia and Monaco-Monte Carlo). I wasn't able to find a total fare on that route, however the cost for a second class ticket from Vernazza to Ventimiglia (which is the border crossing point) will be about €20.80 (subject to change of course). It's not a long trip from there to Nice Ville, so I don't imagine the ticket will be too expensive.
We took the train from Monterosso last year to Nice. It took just over 6 hours including a change in Genoa. We had a 1st class rail pass so I am not sure what the cost would have been had we not had the pass. We did however pay an extra 10 euro fee for the two of us for the reservation fee, which we paid for in Rome when we arrived and validated our pass.
The fare from Ventimiglia to Nice Ville is €6.50.
Tim, Thanks for posting the fare from Ventimiglia to Nice. For some reason, I couldn't find it.
Ken, The regional trains from Ventimiglia to Monaco and Monaco to Nice are operated by SNCF so fares aren't listed on the Trenitalia site. You can find the fares at either www.voyages-sncf.com or www.tgv-europe.com.
Tim, I tried the SNCF website, but after "struggling" with it for about 10-minutes, I gave up. I don't find it as "user friendly" as the Trenitalia or bahn.de websites. Thanks!
Thanks everyone it's been a lot o f help!
