Train/car travel Lithuania/Latvia/Estonia

With 10 days to tour the above has anyone had any experience traveling by train or car in these regions. I have NO itinerary yet...just want to see the countryside and a few towns, a wee taste of these countries as it were. Depending on posted responses I'll either train from point to point or drive, one or the other. Any and all feedback would be appreciated.

We traveled by bus from Vilnius to Klaipeda, Lithuania, and the trip was fine. The train from Vilnius to Warsaw was great, also. Word of mouth (summer, 2007) had it that the national train system was poor. Friends traveled from Klaipeda to Riga by bus and had a good experience. We have no other experience in the Baltics. Good luck.

I found Lithuanian rail as clean, if not as fast, as any other in Europe. However, the network is not nearly as extensive as its western counterparts. Trains only connect the major cities and villages that lie in between. Far more extensive is the bus network. In such as small country, this works just as well as rail.

Agree with Tom, rail travel in these countries is limited. Try the bus system. We used Eurolines to go between Tallinn and Riga and between Riga and Vilinus.
