Train, Car, or Fly

Hi, I will be flying in 1st week of June into Geneva and doing a pre-trip 4nts in oberland and then embarking on a 12 day cruise in Rome. Would be great to get advice ... 1. Best mode of transportation from Geneva to Oberland 2. Best mode of transportation from Oberland to Rome 3. What type of train ticket passes to purchase? thanks for your help,
Mabel

Mabel, Regarding your questions.... 1.) I'd travel by Train. You can travel from Geneva Airport to Interlaken Ost. Depending on which train you use, there will be 1 or 2 changes in Bern and/or Spiez, travel time ~3 hours. You didn't specify where you'd be going in the Berner Oberland, so I used Interlaken Ost as the destination. Where are you planning to stay in that area? 2.) I'd travel by Train. The trip will be as short as 6H:30M, with two changes in Spiez and Milano Centrale. Reservations will be compulsory for some legs of that trip. If you departed Interlaken Ost at 07:29, you'd be in Rome at 13:59. 3.) I'd use Point-To-Point tickets, since you only have a few rail journeys. When you arrive in Geneva, you should be able to buy your tickets to the Berner Oberland and also from the Berner Oberland to at least Milano (not sure if you'll be able to purchase tickets for the Milan to Rome link - you may have to pre-book those on the internet?). For transportation from Rome to Civitavecchia to board your ship, you might find it helpful to have a look at This Excellent Website. Happy travels!
