We have read about the Little Yellow Train in the French Alps. We understand that there is a way from Barcelona to Latour-de-Carol-Envietig where you can transfer to the Little Yellow Train. Connect in Villefranche de Conflent on a night train to Paris. How does one by tickets in advance for this itinerary. We are leaving Barcelona on Sat July 21st

You can't buy tickets in advance for Barcelona to Latour-de-Carol as Spanish railways only sell advance tickets for long-distance express trains, and although the distance is quite long the train is officially a local. You would need to buy a ticket in Barcelona once you get there. Don't worry, the train won't be so full you can't get on. You can get tickets from Latour-de-Carol to Paris on tgv-europe.com. You may have to get separate tickets from Latour-de-Carol to Perpignan and Perpignan to Paris to avoid getting booked on the direct night train from Latour to Paris via Toulouse rather than the Train Jaune. I don't think there is a direct night train from Villefranche to Paris, you'd need to connect at Perpignan. (Also, that's the Pyrenees, not the Alps which are at the opposite side of the country.)

Also, if you're booking tickets in Spain, the place is known to Spanish ticket offices and machines as "La Tor de Querol".
