Train Annecy France to Venice

I'm traveling with my husband in September. We are taking the train from Paris to Annecy and spending 2 nights there before continuing on to Venice. We would like to go by train leaving from Annecy and arriving in the Venezia Santa Lucia station. I'm having trouble figuring out how to book the train; it looks like you either need to buy a ticket from Annecy to Torino Porta Susa and then a second ticket from there to Venice or from Annecy to Milan and from there a separate ticket to Venice.

My big concern is that the train from Annecy to either Milan or Torino goes through Chambery Challes station with only a 7 minute transfer time. Does anyone know if this will be enough time? Do you think we should try it?

Also, if you know a better way to book the train that would be much appreciated as well! Thank you in advance!

Yes, you will need separate tickets for different legs of your journey and the tickets for the faster trains will be reserved for a particular departure, with seat assignment, not good on other trains. Advance discount tickets on the longer legs are often not refundable or changeable. To buy all from one company, you can try an agent like CapitaineTrain or Rail Europe, but you will still receive separate tickets with different rules for each, and may get better price/time selections by entering each separately into your shopping cart.

Missing the TGV connection at Chambery would be a big deal and (unless you paid full fare) you'd have to buy new tickets (now at full fare, on the day of travel). For comfort, you can choose an earlier departure from Annecy, such as the 7:47 instead of the 8:39, giving you plenty of time at that connection point.

The connection point at Torino does not have the same issue. Timing there is already generous and those fast trains cooperate together in case of delays.

Laura, Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! I couldn't find the earlier train you mentioned until I tried booking on Loco2. Then I entered the trip with a via point of Chambery and that seemed to make the earlier train option appear. We are now booked to go from Annecy to Chambery and from there to Turino Porta Susa.
