Hi, 2 adults and 18 yrold flying into De Gaulle want to tour Germany for 4 days then Paris for 5 and want suggest on best Train stations from Paris to Mannhein then car to Rothenberg and Fussin and back to Mannhein train to Paris. Are there better options
Does it matter which are the best train stations between Paris and Mannheim? Any train that gets you to Mannheim would be okay, right? Driving: More than 800 km in 4 days. You'll spend around $120 in gas. Autoeurope will get you for $320 without insurance. Füssen adds too much mileage. If you want to see castles, why not just visit the genuine-article medieval castles on the Rhine north of Mannheim instead? If you want to see some Rokoko palaces, do that near Rothenburg in Würzburg. I would do it like this. 1.) Train form Mannheim to Würzburg, 2.75 hours on regional trains via the pretty Neckar River route, 29 Euros for all 3 on a Baden-Württemberg daypass. See the Residenz. Stay in W'burg. 2.) Daytrip to Rothenburg and back - 29 Euros again (Bayern ticket.) 3.) Train from Würzburg to Bacharach on the Rhine. 69 Euros for 3 on an advance-purchase Sparpreis ticket for the fastest trains from the German railways website: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en OR go on Sat or Sun on a "Happy Weekend" daypass with the regional trains - 39 Euros total for 3. 4.) Daytrip to Marksburg Castle and Rheinfels by train - 27 Euros for 3 on a Rheinland-Pfalz ticket. 5.) Use an R-P ticket (27) the next day to get to the French border on your trip back. You can travel the pretty Mosel River via Koblenz and Saarbrücken to the border. Or use the R-P ticket to return to Mannheim, if you have to go back there, for some reason, and get your train there. Add it up and you have either 151 Euros or 181 Euros depending on your #3 choice for Germany.
