My wife and I will be traveling in September, by train(s), from Innsbruck to Verona, Milan and on to Varenna to join a RS Italy tour. If I reserve seats on the train starting in Innsbruck, is that reservation good all the way to Verona, Italy (wondering if there is a change of trains at the border and would we need a new resrvation at that place for the Italian train?)?

No change at the border (and that's a very scenic ride). Not sure about your reservation question, I did change trains at Verona to go to Venice, but I don't remember whether I had a seat reservation. I think not - the train was late getting to Verona and I took a later train to Venice on the original ticket - but the train to Milan may require one.

There are a lot of train connections from Innsbruck to Verona, but the main, through trains, are German Rail trains (EC) from Munich. You shouldn't have to change trains at the border. Your seat reservations will be good to Verona. Some of these trains go on to Venice, Milan, or Bologna, and again, depending on the train, as long as you don't change trains in Verona, seat reservations are good all the way. I hope you're not looking at RailEurope as they only show partial information. Get your schedule information from the German Rail website.
