Traffic ticket from Netherlands

I received by mail a traffic ticket from our June rental car trip through Netherlands. I mailed a check and they wouldn't accept it. Ticket is $53, but wiring the money would be another $45. Will they come after me for $53?

For wire transfers many forum members report that wise (formerly transferwise) works well and has reasonable fees. My credit union partners with them for overseas transfers.

They do not take a credit card ( or debit card) payment?

I had a ticket in Belgium and it was charged to the rental car company. Hertz then charged me the fee using the credit card I used for the rental. You might try contacting the company you rented from.

I saw a $45 charge on my credit card from Hertz. A month or so later, I received a certified letter from the City of Venice for about $100. Hertz charges for notifying cities of who had a rental car on specific days. Come to find out, many radar/cameras are in the Italian cities, and they don't give one kph leeway..

There are bill payment services in Europe that wire transfer funds directly into city checking accounts--as stipulated on the certified letters received. The cities demand payment in Euros. The bill paying services can charge your Visa or ATM account for the funds and their service charge. And they can be found online.

Just be aware that there's a radar camera on the causeway going out to Venice, and the speed limit is just about 35 mph--relatively slow.

Even if it costs a ridiculous amount to wire, pay the ticket and consider it a learning experience and move on..

Regardless of whether they come after you or not, please do the right thing and pay the fine. Thank you.

Yes, they will come after you, even if it will cost them more to process this administratively. I would pay the $ 98 but then renting a car is not an option for me in Europe.

I tried to pay with xoom, but it wouldn't let me ad a reference so they could credit the payment to my ticket. So I paid the $40 and had my credit union wire it.
