Towns to visit in Austria

I'm looking to do some hiking and biking in Austria. I've read that Hallstatt, Melk, and Kelm are beautiful. Has anyone been there - what is your experience?

Hi Dennis,
We were in Hallstatt last Oct. Beautiful area! By Innsbruck, check out Hall in Tirol. Great town surrounded by the same mountains as Innsbruck. Not in Austria, but VERY close, Mittenwald, Germany and the Berchtesgaden area are fantastic.

Hi Dennis, If you're in Austria and have access to a car, my recommendation is to go to Bled, crossing the southern border into Slovenia. They are completely geared for all of your outdoor activities. We used Lifetrek for a guide to take my husband and I on a hike up the Julian Alps (Dubela Pec - 2040m altitude). It was one of the best experiences we've had in our travels! Because its a small town/village you meet lots of people and will bump into them in town your whole visit.

Great place to do both, I recommend the Danube area from Linz down to Krems. We rented our bikes in Vienna and then took the train to Linz and then biked back to Krems. He is our website for the trip:

Any questions you can email me through the site or here. Great villages along the way on this trip.
