Touring Amalfi Coast from the best side from Salerno

Dear Fellow Travelers, We will already be in Naples and we want to travel scenically to Positano. We don't want to go via Sorrento, and then ferry to Positano, because it would seem like you wouldn't see the best side of the Amalfi Coast. I read somewhere, (so looking for additional advise), that we should take the train from Naples to Salerno, and then jump on a Ferry to ride all the way to Positano and enjoy the views. Any recommendations? Thank you in advance!

I can’t give you firsthand experience, yet, because we are planning this for a trip this year. But, we will be taking the train to Salerno (staying two nights) to not only take the ferry to Amalfi (staying three nights) but on to Positano while staying in Amalfi. We want to take the train to Paestum from Salerno as a day-trip to see the Greek ruins.

We chose this as our priorities vs. going to Capri and Pompeii where staying at Sorrento makes more sense as a home base.

I stayed in Salerno when the ferries weren't running. However, I can tell you that you are correct. It's an easy few minutes' walk on level pavement from the train station to the pier. You will go along the most scenic stretches of the AC from Salerno to Positano.

Caveat - Are you flying into Naples? If so, that may be too much hassle - airport > train station (and buy tickets) > Salerno > ferry (maybe need to change ferries?) > hotel. Especially after a long haul flight, that's too much. Bite the bullet and pay for a private transfer. OTOH, if you're coming into Naples by train, you may be able to get a direct train to Salerno from your starting point.
