My husband and I are flying into Malpensa on Sept 6th then, bus to Torino (overnight there)and the Bernina train to St. Moritz. So, if we take the "local" train instead of the Glacier Express out of St. Moritz, any suggestions for where to stop over to hike or stay the night?
Should we buy a Swiss rail pass? We are only in Switzerland till Sept. 11, then back to Milan to pick up a rental car and onto Lucca. Any ideas about where to stay in Torino?
While riding on a train in Switzerland and using the Swisspass several years ago I talked with a local resident who asked what I paid for my pass.
When I told him, he said I could have bought point2point tickets for my week's travel cheaper at the RR station.
I suggest you research both methods to determine which is cheaper for you.
He also told me that the regular ticket on the same route is cheaper than the Glacier Express. The only difference is the Express provides larger windows.
