Hi - does anyone know if you can buy a one way ticket online now (july) for travel in October Edinburgh to London? I've tried it several different ways different web sites and nothing but roadblocks. Help!
www.nationalrail.co.uk should be the best site, allowing you to take advantage of early booking offers when and where available. They only allow for 120 days in advance though, so the latter part of October won't be quite available yet.
Consider a BritRail pass. You buy those here and they come in 2 levels. 8 days of travel out of 15 or 15 days out of 30. This gives you flexibility. We travel from London to Edinburgh a lot. Consider breaking your trip in York for a night. Cool city and you won't be on the train for 5 hours.
The National Rail site shows single fares as low as £15.70 on GNER trains from London King's Cross to Edinburgh Waverly for booking into late October.
Bargain Berths on the Caledonian Sleeper from London Euston to Edinburgh Waverly can be as low as £19. Use this link, http://tinyurl.com/g9ehd, and click on "Bargain Berths" on the left-hand side of the page. Booking is now open into mid-October. For a glowing description of the Caledonian Sleeper, including photographs of the accommodations, go here: http://tinyurl.com/kjw8e.
If your only train ride is London-Edinburgh, a Britrail pass will NOT be a good choice.
