Toll Device

We are travelling 1 week in Germany, 1 week in Switzerland, 4weeks in Italy, 2 weeks in France and 4 weeks in Spain. What kind of device should we get for our car to deal with the different tolls?
Thank you for any help.

There are no tolls in Germany and for Switzerland, you need to purchase a vignette sticker. If by "device" you mean something similar to EZPass, I don't believe they use them in Europe. Or, there probably isn't any Europe-wide pass available. Some posters report an increasing number of unmanned toll booths in France, which apparently require an EC card (AKA "PIN and chip" ) for payment. Although I haven't driven in France in over a year, I never ran into a situation where I couldn't use cash to pay the tolls. Ed from Pensacola has a lot more experience driving in France and Spain than I do, perhaps he can chime in.

The countries that have toll boths have a transponder system in use like EZPass, but it is not universal throughout Europe, although there are are some plans of making it universal. For now, go with credit cards or cash. In France and Spain, some toll booths at smaller exits are now unmanned, I don't know whether they accept US credit cards due to lack of chip. Getting a transponder for a few weeks seems excessive to me.

If you really want an electronic toll transponder for France &/or Spain, you can order one here: http://www.tolltickets.com/ Unfortunately neither country's device works in the other.

Italy has one called a Telepass but the only way to get one is to open an account with an Italian bank so they can draw the money directly out of it.
