We have an early departure from Venice and would like to know what options there are for efficient travel to the airport. We are staying at Hotel Malibran, near the Rialto vaporetta stop and will probably need to leave our hotel at 5 a.m. to catch a 9:30 a.m. flight. Thank you
The ATVO buses begin departing from the Piazzale Roma at 5:00am. CLICK HERE to see the schedule. You don't need to catch the 5:00am bus but you should be on 5:50. The trip takes 20 minutes and costs 3Euro. ACTV also has bus runs. You need to take the vaporetto from the Rialto stop to the Piazzale Roma. CLICK HERE to see the Rialto departure for 4:55am. It's the #1 vaporetto. If you need to leave earlier, there is a 4:35am N (night) vaporetto. You can see all of this at www.actv.it.
Thank you. Any advice on water taxi or alilaguna? I understand that the these may be more money, however, they may be more direct and minimize the luggage challenges.
nothing was posted????
Bus 5 from the A1 section leaves to go to the airport from Piazzale Roma (if I remember correctly--in any case the front of the bus will be marked "Aeroporto". The bus has racks for luggage storage. It can be crowded during peak hours, but at the time you will be leaving, it should be fine. Only problem is crossing the bridge which leads to the mainland. They are currently building a ramp. The stairs are not that steep though and it is pretty manageable.
The water taxi costs a minimum 125Euro ($168). It is quite direct. That early in the morning, you get what I call the James Bond ride. It's a very scenic higher-speed ride through the canals as the city is waking up. It's supposed to be really something. But, its expensive. As for the vaporettos and bus, you are over-fretting about any luggage challenges. The Alilaguna has very few stops on the Venice main islands. Besides, it takes them longer to get to the airport because one of those stops is the Lido. The run takes about 1hr.-20min. You can see the stops and schedule at www.alilaguna.it.
