I will be flying to Berlin in late April. I have done a little research on transportation from Tegel Airport to my hotel in Mitte. Is there a bus for example that goes directly to one of the bahnhofs in Mitte (from which I can take a taxi directly to my hotel. I really don't want to haul my suitcase, purse, etc though many tram transfers in order to use all public transportation. I also don't want to pay $100+ by using a taxi for the whole trip. Any suggestions for me?

As soon as you arrive at the Tegel terminal ask where the Tourist information Office is located; go there and ask the agent how to get to Mitte.
Write the instructions to take with you.

You know the best place to get info like that? Over on Trip Advisor, as they have Destination Experts. One of the ones from Berlin will be able to give you accurate, up to date information on how to get to Mitte from Tegel.

The toursit booth at Tegel airport was very helpful when we were there 4 or 5 years ago. Depending on your destination you can get a bus at the airport to take you into the city.

Thank you all. I did google Tegel to Mitte. Looks as though there are buses that go to various bahnhofs. I think my first stop though will be the TI booth at Tegel.
