Tips navigating through Rome Termini Train Station

I will be flying into Rome and connecting to the Amalfi Coast area by train (Airport train to Termini to Salerno then transfer to hotel). I did pre-book rail tickets using Rail Europe as I needed a firm arrival time in Salerno to confirm hotel transfer.

I am concerned about navigating through the Termini station and finding the proper platform/location to board my train as I have heard the Termini station can be overwhelming. Any tips from the more experienced Rome travelers? (I have navigated fine in the past in London, Paris and Madrid... but have heard Rome is a little challenging). Are the signs fairly straight forward or do you have any lessons learned that you can share?

Andrea,

As with the previous post, I also haven't found Termini to be any more difficult than other stations. It's "busy" and at times a bit chaotic (not as bad as Milano Centrale though) but the layout is the same.

You'll probably be taking the Leonardo Express from Roma / FCO to Termini (DON'T forget to validate!). As I recall, it arrives at one of the tracks on the far side of Termini. Walk forward to the end of the tracks where the printed schedules will be, double check the train and track number for your next train on the electronic board and you'll be all set.

How long is the wait before your train to Salerno departs? You might want to go down one level to the "Drugstore" (actually more of a small grocery store - it's on the right - there are ATM's in that area too) and pick up a Pannini & bottle of juice or whatever for the trip. There are also the "usual" fast food restaurants at track level.

Happy travels!

Thank you all for your very quick replies. It sounds like it will be a lot less challenging than I thought. I do have some time before my train to Salerno so I will definitely be sure to pick up something to eat/drink before starting my journey.

Thanks again!

be aware of your personal safety at all times in espec.Termini station. Notorious for pickpockets etc. If someone talks to you it is prob to distract and rob, selletc you something. sad commentary but just be aware. Also validate your tix in the platform in the yellow small ticket validator. You risk a large fine if you do not.

Probably the biggest obstacle of navigating through Termini is to LEAVE Termini with everything that you brought INTO Termini with you ;-)
