tip for Budapest to Salzburg by train

When I was trying to book our point to point tickets from Budapest to Salzburg I was stymied by all the websites. MAV would only allow me to book night train tickets, oebb would not let me do it and bahn.de priced it at 80 Euros! Then I accidently discovered that if I bought Budapest to Munich on the same 7 am train (Munich is the next and last station after Salzburg) the price dropped down to 49 Euros! That saves us 93 Euros for our group of 3. I thought I would post this for my fellow travelers in case anyone was interested. I am sure some our very savvy travelers already knew this!
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the tip. I don't need it now, but as you say, it may help at some point in the future.

There are several direct trains a day from the Budapest-Keleti train station to Salzburg taking less than 6 hours. 2 years ago purchased our second class tickets a couple of days prior to leaving Budapest at the MAV ticket office on Jozsef Atilla u. for 29 Euros each...checking site today they are still 29 Euros. We are returning to Budapest for a few days in Sept. and plan to buy our tickets to Prague at the ticket office the day we arrive. The office is easy to get to as it is centrally located not far from Deak ter or the Basilica.

Thanks Pam. That sounds great. It is just that we travel with our son who has Autism and we like to have all our tickets in hand and with seats reserved so they are together. Also we will be in Budapest in mid July. I am concerned we might not get seats together. But may be we will chance it this time. Thanks again for the info.
