Hi there, My daughter and I will arrive at Gatwick from Barcelona Spain at 11:30 p.m., and will have to leave from Heathrow again at 12:30 p.m. ( aprox 12 hours later)to board a flight back to Canada. As I have never been travelling in that part of the world I am concerned about timing. My travel agent said we could get a hotel room in Gatwick to sleep for a bit, but I think this might be a waste.Any ideas or timming issues I should look out for?
Should I just head to Heathrow and wait it out?
I appreciate any and all comments as Like I say I have no idea what it will be like.
I think that you will be long enough to make a nearby hotel worth your while. I do not know how long it takes to get from Gatwick to Heathrow, but I imagine it would be more difficult in the middle of the night. If hotels near Gatwick are not too expensive, I'd perhaps take a room (you'd probably be in bed by 1:30), sleep until morning and then get yourself over to Healthrow in time to check in for your international flight. You'll still get a good six hours of sleep.
According to the timetables at www.nationalexpress.com, the first direct Gatwick-Heathrow coach (bus) you could catch leaves at 01:50 and arrives at 03:10. For information on sleeping at either Heathrow or Gatwick, see www.sleepinginairports.net.
I have no personal experience, but there's a new hotel in Gatwick South terminal called Yotel - see
http://www.yotel.com/. Can rent by the hour (4 hour minimum). Microscopic sized rooms, but who needs size when you can sleep on a bed and not a waiting area chair? I did a quick search and it looks like you can't book until July 1, so that might not work for you. If you try it, be sure to post on this site so curious others (like me) can hear about it.
